Analog Spectrum
Analog Spectrum – Doug and Tony - are two Gen X 50-something guys who have managed to stay friends for around thirty years. They enjoy analyzing and debating entertainment, (pop) culture, and the general concepts of society through their unique, often retrospective, lens. They may know some things, but they don’t know a lot. They are doing this strictly for fun. Take that as a warning that you probably shouldn’t expect much; however, if we’re super fortunate, they might be able to bridge the gap between the analog years and our current digital days while providing an interesting perspective on several fascinating and noteworthy topics that clearly don’t matter all that much. email us at analogspectrum@gmail.com -- Twitter: @analogspectrum -- Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AnalogSpectrumDT

The COAST GUARD: Signing Up and Boot Camp
Monday Jan 23, 2023
Monday Jan 23, 2023
If you weren’t aware, our two distinguished hosts spent a good chunk of their adult lives in the service. As a matter of fact, they met while stationed together in the Florida Keys. On a bit of a whim – it wasn’t really planned – they decided to discuss their time in the military. This hour only covers the first part of their first year in the Coast Guard: what it was like to go to the recruiter, sign up, go through MEPS, and get through boot camp. This podcast is both educational and entertaining. Straight up, for something that was done on the spur of the moment, it’s pretty awesome – by far, one of my favorites! I have a feeling you’ll get a kick out of it too! Also, get ready because there is NO DOUBT there will be several sequels to this one.

The Batman and Joker (a discussion about movies)
Monday Jan 16, 2023
Monday Jan 16, 2023
The guys at Analog Spectrum discuss two recently released movies in this podcast: The Batman (2022) and Joker (2019). Something about these two movies – even though they were penned by two different writing teams and directed by two different directors – they have more in common than differences. It's almost like our hosts must examine and review them in the same podcast! We hope you appreciate two movies for the price of one.

Hodgepodge Nùmero Dos!
Monday Jan 02, 2023
Monday Jan 02, 2023
Lucy is SNOOZING and SNORING! Analog Spectrum talks about little chihuahua CPAP machines, and "thought crumbs," whatever the hell that means. Then the guys play a little game called Guess the Song. One of us reads some lyrics, and the other tries to guess. It's a lot harder than it sounds! This extemporaneous (yes, "extemporaneous") diversion prompts a deep conversation about music then and music now. Seriously, the guys lean towards the profound and intense; I don't know a better way to describe it. Did streaming ruin music? Why didn't we listen to Captain & Tennille? Is XM-Sirius worth it? Why do we re-listen to the same 500 songs over and over? What happened to the radio? And that only scratches the surface of the conversation. This discussion strays into car audio, specifically car audio then and car audio now, which ends up in a gabfest about Doug's future kit car project.
Also, The gremlins strike around 52:00.
Recommendation: Broken Peach, Tainted Love

A Gaming Expert Joins Us and Little Nightmares
Monday Dec 26, 2022
Monday Dec 26, 2022
That’s right, we got a GUEST! Doug’s son, who is a top-tier computer gaming enthusiast and aficionado, joins Analog Spectrum via high-speed top-end technological voice-over-telecommunication hardware and software (i.e., Zoom) to educate the old-timers on what’s going on in the video game and electronic entertainment world. Topics include the new Harry Potter entry, PC vs. Xbox vs. PlayStation, who’s got the best exclusives, new Looter Shooters, PvP mods, and what else is coming down the pike. Additionally, Doug and Tony talk about their play-thru of Little Nightmares, an indie puzzle-platform horror game. And, of course, it wouldn’t be an Analog Spectrum podcast if the two hosts didn’t digress into their old-school gaming experiences.

The Analog Spectrum Christmas Special
Monday Dec 19, 2022
Monday Dec 19, 2022
Christmas! We don't dislike it! I really think that's the take-home point of our discussion. Tis' the season to watch It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story; both are incredible movies, even when we consider them outside of the holiday season. It doesn't stop there; Doug and Tony talk about other Christmas-media-centric things to relish, like a long list of TV shows and films. But it doesn't stop there. Do they have a favorite gift? What's the difference between their childhood experiences and what the Holidays are like as adults? Who likes to light up the house, and who prefers a more subtle Yuletide time of year? And finally, hear the story of Susie Christmas! The most amazing Chihuahua-Pug mix that ever lived!!

The RABBIT HOLE! (Advice for My Younger Self)
Monday Dec 12, 2022
Monday Dec 12, 2022
First, Lucy is going crazy in this episode. Enjoy the grunts and growls of a sleepy chihuahua.
What do you have to look forward to after the snoozing puppy? Well, it's down the rabbit hole we go! As with the previous podcast, there was a topic: what advice would Doug and Tony give to their younger self, but that lasted about five minutes. Then things go pear-shaped, and the wheels fall off the bus. Why do we even try to keep these two focused?!? Also worth noting, this episode is both deep and sometimes dark, and maybe it doesn't make a lot of sense. Come on, they all can't be winners! Anyway, just enjoy the chaos. Maybe they'll get back on track in the next installment, but don't bet on it.

Gone, But Not Forgotten
Monday Dec 05, 2022
Monday Dec 05, 2022
This episode is kind of hard to describe – Doug and Tony start with a discussion about things they miss from days gone by…you know, like air travel that didn't completely suck or an internet made up of more than social media sites. However, things quickly spiral out of control after that. In summary, there is some conversation about stuff that's not around anymore, but before you can even say, "I miss my record player and old 45s", they go off on several wild tangents that make no sense, and they rarely get back around to the original theme. Do better, guys!
Tony's Recommendation – Goo Goo Doll's Yeah, I Like You (off the album "Chaos In Bloom" ): https://open.spotify.com/track/0F13UR88VCNWb0NbD0tXSM?si=14861e490a1449af
Doug didn't have a recommendation because he had a brisket brain.
