Analog Spectrum
Analog Spectrum – Doug and Tony - are two Gen X 50-something guys who have managed to stay friends for around thirty years. They enjoy analyzing and debating entertainment, (pop) culture, and the general concepts of society through their unique, often retrospective, lens. They may know some things, but they don’t know a lot. They are doing this strictly for fun. Take that as a warning that you probably shouldn’t expect much; however, if we’re super fortunate, they might be able to bridge the gap between the analog years and our current digital days while providing an interesting perspective on several fascinating and noteworthy topics that clearly don’t matter all that much. email us at analogspectrum@gmail.com -- Twitter: @analogspectrum -- Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AnalogSpectrumDT

Bad Guys, we Love’em!
Monday Oct 03, 2022
Monday Oct 03, 2022
The guys at Analog Spectrum discuss their favorite Hollywood bad guys. I’m sure you can guess a few of them, but I’d be lying if I said there weren’t a few surprises in this podcast. This one is pretty straightforward, and it’s pretty damn good. I’ll fight anyone that says different!

Idolized NO MORE! Things we no longer like.
Monday Sep 26, 2022
Monday Sep 26, 2022
It’s just what happens…as we mature, we lose interest in those things we love. That doesn’t really relate to this podcast because neither Doug nor Tony are what we would refer to as mature, but there are things they used to like, and now they are not big fans. Doug seems to focus on foods from his childhood, along with some video games and newer American cars, while Tony seems to go after pop culture, music, and current events. Clearly, this is just about two old guys ranting about the world changing around them – who doesn’t want to listen to that?

Grant and the Texas 4000 (Part 2)
Monday Sep 19, 2022
Monday Sep 19, 2022
Here is part 2 of the interview with Grant about his Texas 4000 epic adventure! There’s even more awesomeness packed into this one-hour podcast. To bring you up to speed, Grant is now in Canada, making his way to his Anchorage, Alaska goal. Does he make it? Is he successful? Spoiler alert! He crushes it! There is even more conversation about the Texas 4000 mission and what it means to the riders, along with some discussion about not drinking lake water in Western Canada. This exchange is an excellent conclusion to an inspiring story. Please give it a listen at your convenience.

Grant and the Texas 4000 (Part 1)
Monday Sep 12, 2022
Monday Sep 12, 2022
Are you ready for a VERY SPECIAL episode? The guys at Analog Spectrum interview their first guest, Tony’s nephew, Grant. He is one awesome dude who rode his bicycle from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska, with his cycling comrades as part of Texas 4000. As noted on their website, Texas 4000’s mission is to “cultivate student leaders and engage communities in the fight against cancer.” That’s right; he rode his bike OVER 4000 MILES to raise awareness about the all-important battle against cancer and raise a lot of cancer-fighting money, too! His story is impressive and, in my opinion, he is a hero!
So this podcast has everything: altruism, adventure, humor, ice cream, and Mississippi tamales. I can honestly say that this is the most informative and intriguing podcasts Doug and Tony have done so far. It is so jam-packed with goodness that we had no choice but to break it up into two parts. However, if you just want to listen to our hosts act like idiots, don’t worry! There’s plenty of that in there too! Enjoy!

Our Passions! Coffee and Cycling
Monday Sep 05, 2022
Monday Sep 05, 2022
The guys at Analog Spectrum have their passions: coffee and cycling! Interestingly, cyclists love coffee, and coffee lovers also love coffee, so those two groups, and these two topics, have a lot in common. Doug and Tony admit to lacking expertise on those things essential to their happiness, but their passion goes a long way. So please enjoy what they have to say about these two honestly unrelated things that mean the most to them.

Analog Spectrum goes to AFRICA!
Monday Aug 29, 2022
Monday Aug 29, 2022
Can you believe they let these two guys out of the country? I guess it all worked out, and they had their wives there to keep them out of trouble. Doug and Tony reminisce about the epic one-month journey they and their long-suffering spouses took to Africa in 2017. Believe me when I tell you, nothing about the trip was typical. Learn the best way to shop for safari food, drive on the right (or wrong) side of the road, destroy rental equipment, piss off dangerous wild animals, and not get eaten by lions. All of that is in the podcast, along with lots of other anecdotes that’ll have you asking, “how are these guys still alive?” So click that play button for good times and great listening.

Analog vs. Digital
Monday Aug 22, 2022
Monday Aug 22, 2022
This podcast would have sounded a TON better if they’d just put it on vinyl. Doug and Tony discuss Analog (IT’S IN THE NAME OF THE PODCAST!) vs. Digital. The truth is, only about half of the discussion is about that. They usually spend a lot of time jabbering about unrelated stuff, like wine, coffee, bicycles, and broccolini. Seriously, that last one, broccolini, makes a brief appearance. They do get back around to talking about old-school analog and contemporary digital, and, for the most part, they found common ground. Come on, guys! We really thought these two would argue about which is better, but…no. Them’s the breaks, I guess. Finally, maybe make this podcast a drinking game. Every time they say “its own podcast” or “digressing,” take a shot. Now that I think about it, that’s probably a bad idea because you would die of alcohol poisoning. ENJOY!

Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood: Our Humble Opinion
Monday Aug 15, 2022
Monday Aug 15, 2022
Doug and Tony watched Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, then they talked about it. That’s it! Both of our hosts consider Tarantino a favorite writer and director. What do they think about his latest effort?
Before you start listening, we need to issue a spoiler alert. This is a detailed discussion of the movie, from beginning to end, and they pick it apart. Their insights go deep, and they have some agreements and a few disputes regarding their opinions about this film.
Bottom line, this movie -- and this podcast -- will find a place on my list of favorites! Enjoy!
